Hooker, William Jackson 1779-1832

William Jackson Hooker was called by Johnson (History of Gardening, 1829) "an excellent botanist and botanical draftsman." He was joint editor with William Curtis who was editor of the Botanical Magazine.

The books for which Hooker was responsible were:

Pomona Londinensis; containing representations of the best fruits cultivated in British gardens with descriptions (1813-1815)

The colored prints in this point are some of the best ever made of fruits. The book has now greatly increased in price as the numbers are limited and individual plates are expensive.

Additional information about William Jackson Hooker may be found on the Internet.
